Milk Thistle (Cardus Marianus) is one of the most popular liver tonic herb in Europe. It grows in dry, rocky soils throughout southern and western Europe and in some parts of the United-States.

Its branched stem grows 1 to 3 feet high with dark green, shiny leaves. Large, solitary, purple flower heads covered in spines appear from June to August.
