N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC) is a sulfur-containing precursor of the amino acid L-cysteine and the antioxidant glutathione.
As an antioxidant itself, and a precursor to the most important antioxidant in the body, Glutathione, NAC protects cells from damage caused by the excessive oxidative stress that results from inflammatory states, chronic disease, prolonged strenuous exercise, pollution exposure and generalized stress.
