Help Your Immune System Through the Change of Seasons

This Season's Core Four

As the days get shorter and we spend more time indoors, our immune systems have more work to do. Less sunlight, more time in shared spaces, and higher demand for certain nutrients all play a part.

This month we're taking a closer look at four Pure Lab Vitamins essentials and the specific forms we use, so you know the value of making them part of your routine.

Featured this month on our shelves and in this month's flyer.

Vitamin C

More than an antioxidant

Vitamin C does real work in the immune system. It's used directly by immune cells to help them function, and it helps protect those same cells from damage while they're doing their job. It's also a building block for collagen, which supports the skin and tissue barriers that make up your body's first line of defences, like your tonsils and nasal passages.

Your body doesn't make or store vitamin C, so it needs to be replenished daily. That's why taking it consistently matters more than reaching for it only once you feel a cold coming on.

Pure Lab's Vitamin C line is corn-free and sugar-free. It's available in regular capsules and powder as well as in a slow-release formulation designed for sustained benefits.

Vitamin D3

Less “sunshine vitamin,” more immune regulator

Vitamin D behaves more like a hormone than a typical vitamin. Nearly every immune cell depends on it to know how to respond, helping your body mount a defense that's neither too weak nor overactive.

This matters most from fall through spring. At Canadian latitudes, there isn't enough UV exposure during these months for our bodies to produce adequate vitamin D, no matter how much time you spend outside.

Pure Lab uses only dry form vitamin D3 for longer-lasting potency. Choose from our regular or vegan formulations.

One tip: Take it with a meal that has some fat in it. Vitamin D is fat soluble, so it absorbs better that way.

Zinc Glycinate

The immune mineral, minus the upset stomach

Zinc is essential for immune cells to develop and function properly, and even a mild shortfall can leave your defenses under-resourced. The challenge has always been the form zinc comes in. Cheaper versions, like zinc oxide or zinc sulfate, are harder for the body to absorb and can cause nausea, especially on an empty stomach.

Pure Lab uses zinc glycinate, a gentler form bound to an amino acid that the body absorbs more easily, so you get the immune support without the digestive trade-off.

Tip: If you're taking zinc long term at higher doses, it's worth keeping an eye on your copper intake too, since the two minerals compete for absorption.

NAC (N-acetyl-L-cysteine)

Support from the inside out

NAC is a precursor to glutathione, one of the body's most important internal antioxidants for immune defense work.

Since breathing is rather important, it’s nice that NAC has a particular affinity for the lungs, which have to deal with inhaled pollutants like fumes, smoke and smog, as well as bacteria and viruses during cold and flu season.

Pure Lab's NAC provides 600 mg of n-acetyl-l-cysteine per capsule. Its characteristic sulfurous odour means it’s fresh.

Pair it with our Vitamin C for complementary antioxidant support for your respiratory system.

Why This Combination

Each of these nutrients plays a different role in immunity. Adding these four nutrients to your daily regimen covers several angles at once.

Together, they address barrier protection, immune cell function, respiratory comfort, and antioxidant capacity. That's a more complete approach than relying on any single “immunity” ingredient.

Start building up your immune defenses now for a healthier season!
